Installation of Aftermarket Hitch on 2016 Tesla Model X With Factory Hitch
Question:
We have a 2016 Tesla Model X with the factory installed Bosal hitch. We are looking to tow an Airstream Sport 22 travel trailer. We’ve also have been told the factory Bosal hitch and receiver will deform after extended use especially if using an Equal-i-zer WD hitch and to instead install the Draw-Tite hitch. Can the Draw-Tite hitch be installed on the Model X that already has tye Bosal hitch?

The Draw-Tite # 76143 that fits your 2016 Tesla Model X is not designed to be installed with the factory hitch. To install the Draw-Tite you would need to first have your factory hitch removed, and then the Draw-Tite installed; this hitch has been rated as a difficult install (a 10 on the 1-10 scale Draw-Tite uses) so I strongly recommend having professionals install the hitch.
For wiring which will give you a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # 119250KIT. I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop - a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
