Can Hopkins Engager Trailer Breakaway Kit # 20099 be Reset or Does it have to be Replaced
Question:
Once it is used can you reset it or do you have to replace

Expert Reply:
You can reset the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 20099 simply by putting the pin all the way back into the switch. The only time the system would have to be replaced would be if something was wrong with it and even then the subcomponents such as the switch, pin, box, and lid are all available as replacement parts.
There have been times where people used a regular car battery with a breakaway system and that can cause problems. Basically, a regular car battery will keep the trailer brakes on for so long it can damage the wiring or even the brakes. That is why you should always use the little 5 amp hour breakaway battery!
