Which Side Should Hitch Pin of Yakima FourTimer Insert Through
Question:
Is it required that the hitch pin be ed from the passenger side? The reason I ask is because its easier to tighten to bolt to 75ft-lbs when inerted from the driver side, which I would prefer. What do you suggest for the tightness of the bolts at the base and mast? Should I keep them just loose enough so there is some resistance to swinging action, or more loosely so that there is no resistance to swinging the arms with a bit of lateral play?

The threaded hitch pin of the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443-2 was designed to be inserted through the passenger side. The threads of the shank are positioned such that it will for sure tighten on that side. It may still work going through the driver side but it's hard to say as that's not how it was designed. If when you tighten it through that side it still holds the bike tight then it would be fine.
Most hitch accessories like this have as much on the passenger side as possible so that if you were on the side of the road you'd be the closest to the shoulder than traffic.
Yakima just says "hand tight" for the torque value as they don't give a specific figure.
