The battery does have to be disconnected to flat tow your 2017 Ford Edge with push-button start. The automatic battery disconnect, # RM-766, is recommended to do this automatically so you won't have to spend time doing it manually. This disconnect has been used on the positive terminal with other vehicles and I see no reason why you couldn't do the same on your Edge.
If you need all of the other parts to flat tow your Edge then I recommend the following parts:
Base plates: # RM-524454-5 for Titanium, SE and SEL models with or without Adaptive Cruise Control or Active Air Shutters and only works with models with the 3.5 liter motor. If you do have a Sport model you can use # RM-524444-5. It fits models with the 2.7 Liter Ecoboost or 3.5 liter motor and models with Active Air Shutters but not models with Adaptive Cruise Control.
Tow bar: # RM-522
Safety cables: # RM-645
Lighting: # RM-15267
Battery disconnect: # RM-766 (you can add a charge line kit using # RM-156-25 )
Supplemental braking: # SM99251
You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry. Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
