How Far Down to Arms on Thule Hullavator Extend for Kayak Loading
Question:
How far down the side of care does the kayak loading arms extend? Curious if it will help lift my 80lb Hobie outback on top of my GMC campershell

The Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier # TH898 referenced in your question will sit 40 inches lower than the top of the roof rack crossbars when extended down for kayak loading. Please note though that this particular carrier does have a 75 pound weight capacity so your 80 pound Hobie Kayak will be exceeding its limit.
Another option that will provide some assistance with loading your heavier kayak is the Yakima Kayak Carrier # Y04083-04082. This system includes 2 padded rollers that will allow you to load the kayak up from the rear of your truck and push it the rest of the way. 2 flexible saddles will provide support once it is in position. Load straps and bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayak into place. It has an 80 pound weight capacity.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this carrier that you can also check out.
