Troubleshooting Bowed Dampener Backing Plate on Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch
Question:
Hi, just received the rubber dampener with new screws. I have a 2 year old Curt Q20, mounted to rails in the bed of my F350. Old dampener is easy to remove with 2 bolts.. I noticed when re-assembling the metal backing plate was not flat, but slightly bowed. So the plate presses down firmly across the center of the dampener and at 2 corners, but at the other 2 corners there is a bit of a gap. I was wondering if this is normal and ok? If not do you know where I can find a replacement plate? Or would pounding it flatter be ok? I attached a couple pics, one with the dampener in place looking at the back of dampener from the bottom of the hitch the other a side view of the slightly bowed plate.

I spoke with my contact at Curt regarding the metal backing plate on your Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch # C16130. He did say that you won't have any issue with the plate being slightly bowed like what you have pictured. The dampener will still function how it's supposed to and you don't need to worry about flattening the plate.
