J-Style Kayak Carrier Slides Around when Attached to 2013 Ford Explorer Sport Factory Roof Rack
Question:
I am looking for a solution to carrying a kayak on the Ford roof rack system on my 2013 Ford Explorer Sport. I have a set of J Rack devices, but the real problem is that the crossbars on the Explorer are arched no flat point anywhere across them. So this leads to the J Rack not having adequate contact to hold in place. This then causes the J Rack to slide along the bar when the vehicle is moving. I am hoping that you have a set of J Racks that you know have been tested and work on the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport. Thank you for taking the time to answer this question...and resolve a big headache for me.

Actually, the easiest solution would be to use Malone roof rack # MPG202 rather than change to a different kayak carrier. Basically, you will likely run into the same problem with any J-Style kayak carrier. So you can keep the one you have and instead clamp these Malone bars to the factory side rails on your 2013 Ford Explorer Sport.
If you would rather just go with a different carrier then I recommend the Yakima JayLow # Y04073. This carrier has 2 mounting feet per J-cradle for greater stability. The clamp onto the crossbars instead of using u-bolts or a similar method of attachment. The clamping action means there is more contact with the roof rack and thus it is less likely to move at all.
I have linked videos of both the roof rack and the kayak carrier for you.
