The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 has an internal inertia sensor that helps detect how fast or slow you are accelerating. When you press the brake pedal that lets the P3 know it needs to send a signal back to the trailer brakes and then the inertia sensor does the rest!
The sensor makes this controller great for every towing situation unless you are doing a lot of mountain towing. Coming down the mountains you do want your trailer brakes to activate but since you are going slow the P3 doesn't think that the trailer needs very much power.
If you tow many different terrains (including mountains) then the best option is to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR which can actually be switch from proportional to a preset amount of power each time you brake.
Review videos for both brake controllers have been linked for you to check out.
