A brake controller has four wires exiting the rear of the controller, they attach as follows: the red wire attaches to the brake stoplight switch located at the top of the brake pedal. The color of the correct wire on the brake switch is usually a white wire with a tan stripe, but it could vary so it is best to find the correct wire you will need by testing the wires for function. The stoplight switch can have several wires exiting it, you will need a circuit tester like Quickee Tester, part # PTW2993, to probe each wire until you locate the wire that shows voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed. Once located, tap the red wire from the controller into this circuit.

The blue wire attaches to the wire ran up from the 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle, the black wire runs to the positive battery terminal via either the 20- or 30-amp circuit breaker included in the kit (consult brake controller instructions to find which is appropriate) and the white wire connects to the negative battery terminal.

I am including a link to a FAQ page on brake controllers and a link to a FAQ page on Dodge Ram brake controller installation.
