Why Would Vehicle Fuse Blow After Installing Trailer Battery

Question:

When I installed an empty battery on the trailer, the fuse on the car went off. What happens if I have a charged battery on the trailer, have the trailer connected to the car, and start using the electric winch on the trailer? Will the fuse go off again?

Expert Reply:

What fuse blew when you connected the battery? Most likely what happened is that there's a short somewhere on the 12 volt accessory circuit near where you wired in the battery since it happened after the battery install. I'd recommend going over the trailer area looking for any obvious signs of a short and fix as needed.
