No Power From Blue Wire On Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller

If you have no power coming out of the blue wire from the brake controller, then you have a short on the blue wire somewhere or it may have been wired incorrectly. The blue wire on the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 is the wire that carries the signal from your brake controller to the 7-Way on your 1996 Ford truck to activate your trailer brakes.

Testing the brake controller is fairly easy. Sever the blue brake output wire near the brake controller leaving enough room to reconnect it and then apply the manual slide. Using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, you should get output to the controller side of the wire you severed.

A proportional controller will not work using the brake pedal unless the vehicle is moving. So In this case we can't use it to test the controller with the pedal we can only use the manual slide to test the controller. If the manual slide activates the brake output properly then the problem is farther back either in the vehicle wiring or on the trailer. If it's not working then the controller will need to be replaced.

If you are using the Adapter # 3035-P or # 20127 to connect it to your pickup or the controller tested fine when you severed the blue wire then the wiring is most likely shorted somewhere. Check the pin in the 5 O'clock position (see attached picture) on the 7-Way of your pickup with a Circuit Tester # 3808 to make sure that it is working properly. With your circuit tester on the pin you will want to set the Voyager to the highest power setting and then use the manual override switch to see if the brake controller signal is functioning properly. If it is not you will want to check the wire that connects to the pin in the 5 O'clock position (typically blue, but not always) and follow it to the brake controller.

Look for any places where it is damaged, exposed, corroded, or even bent and replace it with 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5. If this doesn't take care of your problem then let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.
