Will a Nylon Roller Affect the Weight Capacity of the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm # DL25200

Question:

Hello I am thinking about replacing the hand winch on my boat trailer with an electric winch. I am looking at the Dutton-Lainson TW4000. Currently my hand winch is installed at a 45 degree angle. The strap goes up and over a small nylon roller, then under the bow stop roller on the winch stand to the bow eye on the boat. I have a 16 foot lund boat and a bunk trailer. The total weight of the boat , motor. fishing gear etc. is 1800 pounds. Can this winch be mounted at the same 45 degree angle? Will the fact that the strap goes over the small nylon roller first instead of directly to the boat reduce the winches pulling power? Is this winch strong enough for my application? Thank you very much for your time.

Typically for boat winches the winch can pull a boat that is twice its rated capacity. If the trailer has good rollers then you could stretch that capacity to 3:1 but if you have wooden bunks it is best to stick to a 1:1 ratio.

The nylon roller shouldn't affect the weight capacity of the winch and since the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm # DL25200 is rated for over twice the weight of your loaded boat you will not have any problems at all.

I have attached a review video and installation instructions for you to reference as well.
