How to Carry Bikes on a 2001 BMW Z3

Question:

Is there an adapter that would allow using a bike rack with this hitch? From the pictures, it looks like only a ball mount is available?

While there isn't a 1-1/4 inch adapter for the vertical trailer hitch # C11748V there are other ways to carry bikes on your 2001 BMW Z3. You could use a trunk mount rack. There are options for both convertibles and coupes. You could use a trunk mounted bike rake like the Hollywood racks Baja # HRE3. This rack holds up to 3 bikes and is easy to install.

I have included a link to a video review on this rack as well as a link to the trunk mount options for your Z3.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
