What Is The Better Option Roof Platform or a Roof Basket

Question:

Hello, I am trying currently trying to figure out what is the better option, a roof platform or a roof basket. The primary use will be hauling gear either in duffel bags or storage totes and maybe some recreational sports equipment-bike, kiteboard, kayak, etc. what would you recommend?

The cargo baskets offer more security for your items. To be honest I like the fact that the roof baskets have bars around their product. That gives me the peace of mind that my items are more secure when on my roof. A product like the Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket # RMCB02 can be applied to round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. It is made with the passengers and drivers that are carrying oversized cargo. The basket does come with a fairing, and that's going to cut down your wind noise, and drag.

For added security I recommend the Stretchable Net and Tie-Down Straps for Rhino-Rack Roof Cargo Basket # RLN1-RTD4.

However, since you are planning on carrying a kiteboard, bike and kayak, the safest way to carry it is using products like the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier Universal Mount # S510 and the Rhino-Rack Hybrid Roof Bike Rack # RRRBC050 instead of the roof basket. It seems like with either option that I presented you, there will be a fight for space on the roof.

A good option is to add crossbars to the roof basket using the Rhino-Rack SX Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRSX100 custom-fit leg clamps tighten with included tool for easy installation on your rails.

By the way I looked up kiteboarding and it looks like fun!
