Thermostatic or Non-Thermostatic Engine Oil Cooler Sandwich Adapter for a 2004 Nissan Titan
Question:
I have an 04 Titan and I am using the thermostatic adapter. Should I be using a non-thermostatic sandwich plate instead? Also, is the rate of flow adequate for the Titan engine?

The Thermostatic Sandwich Adapter, # D15732, has a thermostat that opens when the engine oil temperature rises above 180 degrees, and will then allow engine oil to flow through the cooler and back to the engine. Until 180 degrees is reached the adapter allows the oil filter on the vehicle to function normally and engine oil is not routed through the cooler.
A non thermostatic adapter, like # D15735, will allow oil to flow to the cooler at all times, even when the engine is cold. The only consideration here would be if you live in very cold climates where the temperature is below 0 degrees for extended periods. If that is the case a thermostatic adapter would be a better choice.
The flow rate will remain the same for your vehicle, the oil cooler is a flow through device and will not affect the rate at which oil is delivered throughout the engine.
I recently had a Derale Oil cooler and filter relocation kit added to my 2009 Dodge truck and the oil temperature is down by a full 10 degrees during normal driving conditions and slightly more when towing. Living in the mid-west, there is no real need for the thermostatic adapter on my truck.
