Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up When Connected to Trailer
Question:
I have your breakaway box without charger. After a soaking rain the brakes locked on the trailer. Upon inspection, I found a crack in the breakaway switch cover. Thinking water had gotten into the switch, I cut both wires going into the switch. I tried it with the wires going back to the battery box and trailer twisted together and left open. Neither method proved to work. Finally, I had to cut the blue wire on the vehicle side of the plug for them to release. Can you please give me some guidance on how to correct the issue? Thank you!

Somehow you have a short between the brake output circuit (the wire that runs to the trailer brakes) and the 12 volt accessory circuit that is most likely connected to your breakaway battery. You'll need to go over those circuits looking for any cut or exposed wire and fix as needed.
