The etrailer Class III Receiver Hitch # e98865 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your Chevy Equinox and will use existing holes in its frame for a bolt-on, no-drill installation. I looked through the installation instructions and for your 2011 there is absolutely no vehicle modifications or trimming that needs to be done. This is indeed a direct, bolt-on fit.

This etrailer, Class III hitch is an excellent choice and exactly the hitch I would have recommended. It will provide you with a 2-inch receiver opening and great capacities. You will also want to check the towing capacity of your vehicle by looking at your owner's manual. You will need to follow whichever limit is lower, the vehicle's or the hitch's. I did take a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your Equinox and saw that the specific towing capacity will depend on the engine size, but it does look to top out at 3,500 pounds.

I have attached an installation video for this hitch on the 2012 Equinox, along with the written instructions that you can also look through.

Since it sounds like you may be doing some towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118494 if you do not have the factory tow package. This custom harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located behind the driver and passenger side interior trim panels in the rear cargo area. Once the connections are made, you will just need to run the hot lead up to the vehicle battery. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

I have attached an installation video on your vehicle that you can use for reference.

To tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
