Brake Controller and Install Harness Recommendation for 1996 Ford F-250 w Factory 7-Way
Question:
Hi. I have a Ford F250, 1996, 7,5 liter 460 gas, 4wd truck. Im adding a brake controller to control my new dump trailer with electric brakes. I have continuity between the plug receptacle beneath the dash board where the brake controller plugs into in the truck and the pin at about 2 oclock on my 7 pin trailer recep in the bumper. However, I also have 12 v power to this same pin when the truck is put into reverse controller not plugged in yet. Is that supposed to happen or should there be no other use for that blue wire / pin other than the brake controller. Thanks for the help.

The 2:00 pin of a 7-way is the 12 volt accessory circuit pin and would not be the circuit for a brake controller. The brake output circuit for a 7-way is the 5:00 pin.
To install a brake controller in a 1996 Ford F-250 the correct install harness is the part # 3035-P for a Tekonsha controller like the Prodigy P3 part # 90195.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
