Question:
time I have a 2008 Chevy extended cab short box three-quarter ton and I am looking to install the above bed rails for my fifth wheel how far from the back of the box do I need to measure to mount that first rail

Expert Reply:
Placement of 5th wheel base rails, such as Reese universal kit # RP30035, in your short-bed 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 will have the rear edge of the rear base rail 25-1/8-inches from the rear edge of the truck bed (not the tailgate). Please refer to page 5 of the linked instructions.
If you prefer a custom install kit that will require less drilling and less overall installation time then you might want the Curt base rail kit # C16418-204. If you need wiring use # C56000.
All base rail kits are industry-standard and will work with any brand of 5th wheel hitch made for installation in above-bed rails.
