Does Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2008 Dodge Ram
Question:
I need a sliding hitch for my 2008 Ram 2500 6.5foot bed. I want to be able to remove and reinstall the hitch from time to time. I notice that the weight of any of the hitches themselves is not listed. The trailer I will be towing has a gvwr of 11k lbs. so I dont need anything bigger than a 16k rating. I would like an auto slider, but they look way to heavy. It looks to me in the pictures that the Curt hitch breaks down which would make it easier to take in and out? Is that correct? Would you recommend this hitch. I also need bed rails. Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Curt A16 # C16521 fifth wheel hitch does come in two parts, a head unit which weighs 84 lbs and the base which weighs 109 lbs. So while these parts are not necessarily light, they are manageable and would allow you to remove each piece from your 2006 Ram individually. This is a quality hitch that has a 16,000 lb capacity, a color-coded indicator system so you know when you are ready to couple, uncouple, or tow, as well as an articulating head that will cut down on the amount of noise you might otherwise encounter when towing.
In terms of the base rails, I recommend using the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16420-204. This base rail kit will not require you to drill into your '06 Ram's frame because it mounts to existing holes; it will also save you quite a bit of time during the install process compared to a universal kit.
I've added links to video reviews of both parts for you to check out.
