Recommended Platform Bike Rack for 2015 Jeep Wrangler With Spare Tire on Back
Question:
We just purchased a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with a 285 / 70 R17 wheel on the back. What bike rack can we use that the bikes do not hang, but rather sit on? Like a Swagman XC Cross-Country. That back tire is rather large and we need something to clear it.

There is going to be a platform rack that works for you, though it will have to have a very long shank to clear not only the rear bumper but also the more than 11" wide tire on your 2015 Jeep Wrangler.
The exact length you need is going to depend on a quick measurement you need to take. Just take something with a straight edge like a yardstick and hold it against the back of your Jeep's spare tire and then use a tape measure to find the distance from the center of your hitch pin hole to the straight edge (like in the accompanying photo), and that's the amount of clearance you will the bike rack to clear.
I highly recommend taking a look at the Swagman Chinook # S64683, which is 12-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded down and has a weight capacity of 45 lbs per bike. It is a 2 bike rack which has a hitch lock to secure the rack in your Jeep's hitch and uses ratcheting padded hooks and sliding wheel cradles to to hold your bikes firmly in place.
