Will the Vehicles Brake Lights Illuminate When the Manual Override is Engaged

Question:

Should the brake lights on my car come on when I push the controller brake override when a trailer is not connected/ plugged into my car? I have a 2016 Toyota Highlander with a tekonsha voyager brake controller installed.

I spoke to my contact at Tekonsha about your Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller part # 39510 and they informed me that the vehicle's brake lights will illuminate when the manual override is engaged on the brake controller regardless of whether or not you have a trailer coupled to the tow vehicle. This feature has been added to all Tekonsha brake controller made within the last 4 years. It is also a requirement that the vehicle's brake lights illuminate with the trailer's brake lights in certain states such as California.
