What Parts are Needed to Flat Tow a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Im looking to learn what parts will be needed to flat tow our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Our jeep has 33inch tires with a 2.5inch lift and a stock bumper. We need to safely tow our vehicle behind our RV without breaking the bank. Also if there is an easier/cheaper option I would appreciate the recommendation. Thanks!

There's basically three options to tow a vehicle behiond your motorhome; on a trailer, on a tow dolly, or flat towing with all 4 wheels on the ground. A trailer is probably the easiest to setup but then you have to find a place to put it and manuever it. Tow dollies are often limited by their weight capacity and with the large tires of your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited I doubt you'll be able to fit on one so I think flat towing is your best option.
You need a tow bar, base plate kit with safety cables to connect the Jeep. Then add wiring for lights and a braking system. You also probably need a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level, especially with your lift.
The Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520, is one of our most popular tow bars. It's also one of the least expensive hitch mounts and will work great for you. Combine it with the Roadmaster EZ5 base plate kit, part # RM-521448-5, and safety cables, part # RM-643.
The most economical lighting options are magnetic lights like part # TL21RK. The downside is they need to be setup everytime you tow the Jeep. For a little higher price and a little more convenience there's also the Hopkins # HM56200 that plugs in behind the Jeep's tail lights and provides a 4-way connector at the front. Then use # HM47115 to plug the Jeep and RV into each other. If you use the Hopkins you'll also need a Brake-Lite relay, part # RM-88400. The magnetic kits don't require the relay.
Our most popular braking system for your Jeep is the Roadmaster Invisibrake, part # RM-8700. It's a permanent install so once it's installed so there's no adjusting or anything each time you tow.
Finally, you probably are going to need a high-low adapter. I've linked an article to help you determine how much rise you need with your Jeep. I've also attached a link to our selection of adapters once you've determined what you need.
There's also some other articles and videos attached that you might find helpful.
