Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working When Brake Controller is Working and Sees Connection

2001 savana 7 way plug trailer lights stopped working brake controler says conected they were working fine now none of them work never even moved the van any ideas?

It sounds like you have blown a fuse. I recommend checking your owner's manual in your 2001 GMC Savana for fuse locations. I then recommend checking your wiring harness using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 for each function. It is possible that your brakes are working fine and your other components are not working due to fuses, wiring shorts, or a bad common ground. Make sure your trailer ground is bare metal to metal and has a connection free of debris or corrosion.

If you wires are functioning with the trailer disconnected, then you know the issue is with the trailer itself. I've attached an article to assist. Probe any wires that are not working every few feet with your tester to locate a short.
