Recommended Best Simple Trailer and Hitch Receiver for a 2006 Honda Accord LE

Question:

We have a 2006 Honda Accord with no hitch and we want to to install a hitch and buy a lightweight trailer for hauling bikes and camping gear, mulch, small furniture etc. What is the weight maximum? What kind of hitch and trailer do we need? Can we use a hitch that is hidden and stays on? Thanks!

Expert Reply:

Your 2006 Honda Accord has a towing capacity of 1,000 lbs. For a small trailer like you mentioned, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24787. This will not be hidden, but will be unobtrusive as you can see from the photos on the product page.

You will also need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118302 for your trailer wiring and # 3592 for a ball mount. I recommend hitch ball # 19258 with this application to give you a 2 inch diameter ball.

Finally, for your trailer I recommend the Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer - 7-1/2' Long # K2MMT5X7. This trailer weighs just 450 lbs so the rest of your 1,000 lbs can be used for cargo.
