Recommended Parts to Flat Tow a 2013 Jeep Wrangler with an EZ5 Base Plate Kit

Question:

Hello, I purchased a 2013 Jeep Wrangler that has a Roadmaster 521448-5 base plate attached, it appears this is the EZ5 plate. I also have 2 round attachments that slide into the baseplate. Id like to tow this behind my motorhome but need to know what else to purchase. Can you recommend a compatible tow bar? My RV is a 2015 Thor Hurricane with a class III hitch. Thank you.

If the round parts of the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-521448-5 on your 2013 Jeep Wrangler look like what I have highlighted in the attached photo then those are the removable arms. You can take them off when you aren't towing your Wrangler to give it a clean look.

The Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 will connect directly to the EZ5 base plates and you can use the Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 which have a 6,000 lb weight capacity just like the Falcon 2.

You also need vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system (which is required in most states), and most likely a high-low adapter.

If you don't already have wiring installed on your Wrangler then I highly recommend installing the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This connects to the wiring on your Jeep and the has a 6-Way connector on the front of your Jeep that you connect the coil wiring to.

For a braking system I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. It applies the brakes on your Jeep at the same time and with the same intensity as they are applied in your motorhome. After the initial install it is simply a matter of making a few quick connections and flipping a switch for this system to be ready for the road.

Most flat-towing setups require the use of a high-low adapter to safely tow your vehicle. I have attached a link to our selection od adapters as well as a helpful article that will help you determine what the correct adapter for your setup is.

Be sure to follow any flat towing (or recreational towing) guidelines highlighted in your owner's manual.
