Comparing EcoHitch and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver on 2018 Subaru Outback

Question:

Ecohitch x7266 - I am getting set to get myself a hitch. I have watched a good amount of video on the Draw Tite and Ecohitch. Here's my big question: Does having a frame mounted hitch Draw Tite defeat any safety design made by Subaru. A video showed crumple zones may be affected by frame mounting. To me, frame mounting sounds more sturdy. However, should i be rear-ended, not towing, I think the damage to the frame, and suspension would be more substantial, as opposed to a bumper mount Ecohitch. Cost of hitch isnt an issue. Even the pain of removing the bumper isnt an issue. Its a new 2018 Subaru outback, and I want to go with the safest solution. I appreciate yall, and you are my go-to for towing. Thanks in advance.

I am familiar with the video you are referring to and though I cannot speak to their results what I can tell you is that a frame-mounted hitch such as the Draw-Tite # 75673 undergoes extensive safety testing as does the EcoHitch # 306-X7601. There are no tests from an independent source I'm aware of which would suggest an EcoHitch mounted in the bumper would be safer than the Draw-Tite mounted on the frame.

The advantage of the EcoHitch # 306-X7601 is its hidden style, where only the receiver is visible, unlike the Draw-Tite # 75673 which has a completely visible tube.

I have added links to videos of installs of both of these hitches for you to take a look at.
