Breaking in Self-Adjusting Brakes

Question:

I just installed Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10inch - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs, Item # AKEBRK-35-SA. Can you advise me about breaking-in the brakes. This is on a 2005 Casita travel trailer, with the same brake controller that Ive always used. I understand that some people have complained about the brakes too much or not enough braking when they are new. Thanks for any advice.

Expert Reply:

The Electric Brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA are self-adjusting brakes and the braking can be not enough before they are fully broken in. After making your initial adjustment, what you will want to do is drive on as flat a surface as possible and when at roughly 15-20 mph hit your brakes; also do the same thing but use the manual override on your brake controller. Once this is done enough the brakes will be properly adjusted.
