Can LubriMatic White Lithium Grease be Safely Mixed with Existing Grease on Trailer Bearings

Question:

A friend of mine gave me a tub of White Lithium Grease to use to pack my trailer whell bearings with. Is this safe and can it be used for this purpose? I took his word for it and did it. All seems fine for now but if I should have to change it out to a different type of grease, what would be the best way to go about cleaning off the white lithium in order to apply the new grease?

The LubriMatic White Lithium Grease, part # L11354, can be used on your wheel bearings. If you want to remove it, you will just need to wipe the parts down as best as you can, and then you can use some brake cleaner to further clean the bearings. Take a look at our grease FAQ article I have linked for you.

One of the most important things to consider when mixing different types of grease is that some types are compatible with each other, some are not. If you are unsure of grease compatibility or what grease is currently on your hub, it is best to remove all the old grease and use brake cleaner to strip any remaining grease and start with all-new, fresh grease. The grease FAQ article has a table that shows grease compatibility that should help.
