Compatibility of Trailer Hitch Receiver on Rear of 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Could I put a hitch on a 5th wheel rv safely even if the manufacture states not to? I just want to be able to tow about 1000 pounds with a 2018 Highland Ridge Mesa Ridge Lite MF2910RL.

If the manufacturer states not to put a hitch on the back, then they may have determined it is not safe to anything behind it. We defer to the manufacturer as adding a hitch could void your warranty on the 5th wheel as well and we don't do any independent testing.

If they do not explicitly state not to add a hitch, then most 5th wheel trailers do have the ability to use a hitch receiver like the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs # 13703 which is made for this type of application. It can either be bolted or welded to the 5th wheel frame and is rated for towing up to 3,500 lbs with a max tongue weight of 350 lbs.

Many people will use this hitch for towing a trailer behind their 5th wheel, but it can also be used for a cargo carrier or RV rated bike rack.
