Does the Whole Back of a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon Need to be Taken of to Install EcoHitch

Question:

HiI am trying to decide which of the various hitches for our 2015 Outback makes the most sense. The Eco model # above looks good and I watched the comparison video which sounds like its easier to install but the pictures seem to show a whole bunch of the back end of the wagon taken off in order to do the install. Can you confirm that is the case that looks like a pretty formidable task vs drilling a few holes in the frame. Thanks,

To help narrow down the trailer hitch options I do recommend going with a 2" trailer hitch receiver as opposed to a 1-1/4" receiver. The 1-1/4" options tend to have more restrictions when it comes to accessories that can be used. Since the installations for the various hitch sizes will be the same from the manufacturers I would definitely go with a 2" receiver.

As you can see from the attached photo and installation video, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7601 does require you to take apart the back end of your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon. The installation has been rated a 10 out of 10 for difficulty so if you are not comfortable working on vehicles then this installation option would be better done by a professional.

A lot of the EcoHitch trailer hitches install this way. It helps to give you some adequate weight capacity while giving you a very clean looking trailer hitch.

The Draw-Tite # 75673 and Curt # C13206 trailer hitches do require some drilling for the installation as you noted. Either one will be a much easier installation but will not look as clean as the EcoHitch. Since your Outback Wagon has a max towing capacity from 2,700 lbs - 3,000 lbs it really just boils down to whether you want the more difficult install with a really clean look, or an easier install with less of a clean look.

I have attached sample installation videos for all 3 hitches that you can use as a comparison.
