Torque Specs for 1/2 Inch Grade 8 Bolts to Install Demco Trailer Coupler DM14793-81
Question:
I just finished installing your Demco-Trailer-Coupler-DM14793-81coupler on my car trailer using grade 8 1/2inch bolts and Nyloc Nuts. I forgot to ask if there was a set of instructions that may list what the 1/2inch bolts should be torqued too. Other wise do you have a suggestion? Also, I have safety chains. Can they be attached with the same bolts if the bolt is long enough or should they be attached separately? I figure grade 8 1/2inch should be enough but thought Id ask.

Expert Reply:
Starting with the safety chains they really need to be attached to the trailer frame and not the coupler hardware. If there is no where to attach the chains on the trailer you can weld on safety chain mounting brackets such as # MB12, # MB38, or # MB58.
For 1/2 inch Grade 8 bolts you will want to torque them to 115 foot pounds.
