Is a Weight Distribution System Based off of Max Trailer Weight
Question:
I need help ing a proper weight distribution hitch. I am confused on the capacities. My TT is 7500lbs max. Tongue weight is 700lbs. Do i need a weight distribution hitch that will handle the trailers tongue weight, max trailer load.....AND my payload of the truck? Or just the capacities for the tongue weight and max weight of the trailer? Thanks in advance.

In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to find the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup by adding the tongue weight (TW) of both your loaded ready to tow trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
An easy way to find this would involve using a tongue weight scale like the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # e99044. When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want your TTW to fall in the middle of the weight distributions weight capacity. For example, the ideal weight distribution system for a total tongue weight of 600 lbs. is one that is rated for 400-800 lbs. of tongue weight.
For a TTW between 400 lbs - 800 lbs I recommend using the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System part # RP66083 as this is one of the most innovative systems we offer. The self-centering sway control works to both prevent sway before it occurs and reduce trailer sway as it happens. The only other thing you will need to use this system is a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank for which I recommend using part # A-90 for 2" or part # 19286 for 2-5/16".
I have attached a review/install video of the above system for you as well.
