Helper Air Bag Springs for a 2016 Ram 2500 Towing a Fifth Wheel

Question:

I am shopping for a set of air bags for my fathers 16 Ram 2500. I am on the fence for two kits you offer Air Lift AL88289 and AL57289. The difference being the internal jounce bumper on the AL88289. I like the idea of having a backup from the jounce bumper if the bag looses air, however I do not want to loose any ride quality when we are not pulling the fifth wheel. I have never had any experience with air bag helper springs so any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

On the AirLift LoadLifter 5000 kit, part # AL88289, the jounce springs won't engage if there is some pressure in the airbags, and you aren't hitting a significant bump in the road. The jounce spring will only engage after the suspension and airbags themselves take any initial pressure. Since the airbags will require at least 5 PSI of pressure in them at all times, the jounce won't engage as often as it seems that it should. The urethane of the jounces also engages smoother than traditional rubber jounces, so there will be less sharpness when they engage.

If this sounds like a little much, then I do recommend going with the Air Helpers, part # AL57289 instead, and skip the jounces entirely.

I've included a video of these being installed on a 2016 Ram 2500 so you can get an idea of how the install process will go on your truck.
