Why Would Proportional Brake Controller Activate Trailer Brakes in Reverse
Question:
We have just bought a caravan and are having trouble with the setting of the braking system to reverse. The caravan tows beautifully moving forward, but I cannot find how to adjust the setting so the vehicle is able to reverse. When we try the caravan just feels like it locks up. There is no light that shows on the controller when the gears are put into reverse. Should there be a light? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Is the controller applying voltage on the display when you are in reverse? If so that means the red wire (brake light circuit) is seeing voltage all the time and the controller thinks you are stopping. You need to verify that the red wire is attached to a circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied.
I attached a help article with more info on brake controller troubleshooting for you to check out as well.
