What size pin does it use? 1/2 or 5/8?

The Curt Reducer Sleeve part # C45405 uses a 5/8" diameter hitch pin like part # PC3 or part # e98881. A 2" trailer hitch receiver has the same hitch pin hole diameter as a 2-1/2" hitch. The only difference is that the usable pin length will need to be longer (at least 3") to accommodate for the wider collar.

I have also attached a list of hitch pins that will work with the above adapter for you.

0000 steel wool and some aluminum wheel polish would be your best option for scrubbing it off. The acid in vinegar can also help to break down aluminum oxidation as well.
