Which 7-Way Trailer Connector Fits a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse with the Factory Tow Package Connector

Question:

Hi, I have a 2016 Chevy traverse. It did not come from the factory with a tow hitch/ tow package. I purchased a hitch and 4 way plugwiring kit that plugged into a prewired factory plug above the exhaust pipe from you a year ago. Came with fuses to activate the tow package as well. It’s worked great over the last year. I just purchased a new trailer that has electric brakes and uses a 7way RV connector. After reading a little online, I ordered this universal kit to power brakes and lights: Part # ETBC7 I haven’t installed it yet, but came across other explanations that say something different and now I’m Confused. I do have the trailer brake control plug above the e-brake behind the dash I also purchaed a Hopkins brake controller and appropriate plug for the traverse . Do I need the wiring kit I listed and ordered above or would it be easier for me to just get a new 7 way plug to plug into factory port above exhaust and use the adapter plug behind the dash to plug a brake controller right into? I need lights and brakes. If I already have a plug and play option available, I’d prefer not to do a major wiring install if I don’t have to. On the other hand if thats what I have to do, I will do it Thanks!!

I looked up your previous order and you purchased the wiring harness, parrt # 118270. Since this plugged in and worked for you it means you have the factory to package connector without having the complete tow package. This is good news because all you need to add a 7-way trailer connector is part # 118271. This will give you a 7-way and replace your 4-way plugging into the same place.

So you don't need the # ETBC7 kit afterall.
