Parts Needed For 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Base Plate Recievers

Question:

I have the tow bar, the base plate, and the part # 1528-3 both right and left, but I do not have the receivers that bolt to my Jeep. I have the tow cables, electric cable, and a small square tube for something I do not know. I do not have any instructions although I have used a tow bar before and understand basically how this system works.

It sounds like you have most of what you need to flat tow your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To flat-tow any vehicle you need base plates, tow bar, safety cables, wiring for lights, and braking system.

The base plate you have is the Roadmaster XL, Item # 1528-3. Unfortunately, this base plate kit is not a confirmed fit for your vehicle. Each towed vehicle needs specific plates that mount to it so that the flat-towing is safe for it and the RV. The Roadmaster XL Base Plate that is a confirmed fit for your Jeep is Item # 1411-2.

I think your tow bar is a Roadmaster Falcon 2 with safety cables and the small square tube is a crossbar. It has a quick disconnect system for both the vehicle-side and the tow-bar-side. If this is right, vehicle-side brackets are Item # RM-222 and tow-bar-side brackets are Item # RM-221. If you need both sides, a complete bracket kit is Item # RM-201.

For lighting, you may have part of what you need but not all of it. If you need a lighting option, I recommend the Magnetic LED Tow Lights, Item # TLL21RK because they bypass your Jeep's vehicle wiring, are very durable, and are convenient to use.

If you need brakes, I recommend the Stay-In-Play Braking System, Item # SM99251, because it is a great proportional braking system that has a convenient one time set-up.

Finally, you may need a high-low hitch adapter to keep your tow bar level while flat towing the Jeep. A "safe zone" of 3 inches above or 3 inches below level must be maintained while towing a vehicle. High-low adapters provide necessary rise or drop to get into the "safe zone". I have attached a link to our available selections.

Before flat towing your 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, check your vehicle owner's manual for suggestions and recommendations.

I have attached additional information and videos for you to checkout to help you with your towing project.
