Recommended Weight Distribution System for 16 Foot Enclosed Trailer with 900 lb Tongue Weight
Question:
I have an enclosed 16 foot trailer tools, lumber, etc., not camper. Im thinking a weight distribution hitch might be a good idea to keep the pickup bed from going down too far from the weight. Thoughts? A-shape tongue. Any special wgt. distro. hitch in particular? I can only guess on weight at the tongue at 900 lbs or more. 2013 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Liter. 4WD. I pull a 26 foot camper with it, but that equalizer hitch is 1000 miles away.

With a tongue weight of 900 lbs or more and a length of 16 feet, I definitely recommend a weight distribution system. If you already have an Equal-I-zer system for your camper, you will want to make sure it is rated for the weight capacity of your other trailer. With your estimated tongue weight of 900 lbs or more, I recommend using # EQ37120ET.
The reason for this recommendation is WD systems are rated based on total tongue weight which includes the loaded trailer tongue weight as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. That combined weight is your total tongue weight and needs to be in the middle of the range on your weight distribution system. The system recommended is rated for between 800 and 1200 lbs. This system comes with a hitch ball, but you will need a thin walled socket like # ALL643216 to install it.
This will help distribute the trailer weight over your frame and help with any sag you may have with your 2013 Ram.
