Installing a Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller, # 39510 on a 1999 GMC Sierra 2500
Question:
ISince I posted my question I found your response on a 96 sierra 2500. The truck has several under dash nat marked spade terminals. Does the red controller wire need to connect to a terminal that is energized with the brakes on?

You are correct. The red wire on the brake controller goes to the wire on your 1999 GMC Sierra that shows a signal on a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. If it shows a signal at any other time, like when the headlights are turn signals are on, it is not the correct wire.
However, on your truck, there is a brake controller port located under the dash, to the left of the brake pedal in an electrical junction box. To connection the Voyager, # 39510, to it, you just need harness # 3025-P. It connects to the empty spot, second from the left on the top row, in the electrical junction box.
There may be some connections that you will need to make under the hood of your truck to activate the brake controller. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains the connections.
