Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring Needed for 2008 Toyota Tundra w/ Factory 4-Way
Question:
I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4x4 crewmax that came with factory 4 pin wiring for towing. Recently, I purchased a travel trailer with electric braking system and would like to replace my tow wiring on my truck. What parts would I need for the truck to get everything working with the electric brake system on the trailer?

Since you already have a 4-Way connector installed on your 2008 Toyota Tundra, you will just need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to install a fully functional 7-Way connector from your existing 4-Way, along with the additional wiring for installing a brake controller. I have attached a great article on this kit that details the installation steps that you might find helpful.
You will then just need the trailer brake controller itself, for which I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the electric brakes on your new trailer at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Tundra. It features an easy to read digital display, along with continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This unit is well known for its reliability and ease of installation.
I have included the written installation instructions on this controller that you can take a look at. This will be everything you need to start pulling your new trailer that is equipped with electric brakes.
