I looked up the owner's manual for your 2014 Ford Edge and found on page 242 when it talks about setting your vehicle up for flat towing that you will need to put your vehicle in the accessory position.
You will want to refer to your owner's manual on how to do this as it is highlighted in the "Starting and Stopping the Engine" chapter.
When setting up your Edge for flat towing you will need to make sure you have a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and most likely a high-low adapter.
If you are missing (or need to replace) any of these products just let me know and I can make some recommendations for you.
