Parts Needed to Add a Fully Functioning 7-Way Connector to a 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Question:
I have a 2017 Volkswagon GTI. I wish to install a 7-pin wiring harness on it the trailer I intend to tow has trailer brakes. What products do you have for this application?

If you do not currently have any connector on your 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI then you will need to start off by installing a 4-Way flat connector.
For this I recommend using the ZCI # 119250KIT. The ZCI doesn't require splicing which makes it easier to install.
Once you have a 4-Way flat connector you will then want to install the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything that you will need to install a fully functioning 7-Way on your GTI.
To activate your brakes you will also need a brake controller. Once of the most popular controllers that we have is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because of how easy it is to use due to the LCD screen.
Since your GTI is a little smaller you may be interested in a different brake controller though. The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR is a great solution for a slammer vehicle because it can be mounted inside the dash and the part that you control basically looks like an accessory button than can be mounted in a variety of ways.
Please be sure to follow any guidelines in your owner's manual regarding weight capacitites and towing practices with your GTI.
I have attached some installation instructions as well as review vidoes and some other helpful articles for the wiring.
