Recommended Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack for 2003 Fourwinds Classic 31BH4 Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2003 fourwinds 31bh-4 travel trailer that weights 7000 lbs dry. I would like to add a electric jack for the front and do away with the crank. What tonnage jack do you recommend?

Any item that has to lift or pull weight - whether 5th wheel landing gear, a travel trailer electric tongue jack or a winch - will typically work better and last longer if it is not used at or near its absolute maximum capacity. Think of the extra capacity as safety margin.
For a travel trailer such as your 2003 Fourwinds Classic Series 31BH4 (dry weight of 7358-lbs) the rating I suggest for an electric A-frame jack is 3500-4500 lbs.
I think the best value for an A-frame tongue jack is the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR which is rated for 4500 pounds of tongue weight. This is 1000 pounds more than other models, and even though you may not need this much capacity, you will find that the jack motor runs quick and effortlessly. This will add years to its life. This jack also has a unique clutch that prevents damage from overextending or retracting the jack foot - the most common reason for jack failure. I also like that is has a generous 23" lift, including a time-saving drop-foot. It includes LED lights for operating the hitch in the dark, and a built-in bullseye leveling bubble.
