On your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500, to add the 7-way you will need to add a brake controller unless you won't be towing a trailer with brakes. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is the most popular due to the LCD screen and no need for code deciphering. It has presets that are easy to use as well. For your truck, you can use the wiring harness # 3020-P because you have the factory 4-way. The blue brake wire does not run all the way back to your trailer connection, but it dues run to the connector located under the driver's side wheel well. To finalize your 7-way installation, you will need the Universal Brake Controller Kit # ETBC7. This will give you the 12V power, the wire to connect to that blue brake wire at the wheel well, and then the reverse function wire. The 4-way will plug in directly to your new 7-way.
