Aftermarket vs Factory Hitch Strength on 1999 Chevy Suburban
Question:
Couple questions for my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K2500 4wd. 1. Why is this Curt hitch stronger than my factory hitch? They look the exact same, connect in the same spots, so just wondering. The factory is 5k and 10k with WD. This curt hitch states 10k. 2. Second question is whats the best drop hitch? I need 7 inch of drop for one trailer and 3 inches of drop for 2nd trailer. Most I tow is 7500 pounds. Thanks for the help.

The Curt # C14029 is a Class IV hitch with a 10,000 lb capacity like you mentioned; the difference in capacities often comes down to construction, design and attachment points. In regards to the correct hitch and ball mount for your towing capacity and drop, the previously mentioned Curt # C14029 would be a great choice. As for ball mount for different amounts of drop, I recommend the Rapid Hitch Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount Kit - 2 Zinc Balls - 5-1/2" Drop, 6-1/2" Rise Item # AM3411.
This ball mount comes with reversible 1-7/8" and 2" hitch balls and adjusts in 1" increments.
