Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Anti-Rattle Replacement

Question:

How do I remove the inner part for the Yakima HoldUp, part # Y02443 anti-rattle threaded hitch pin? I have a used Yakima HoldUp, which was missing the threaded hitch pin. I ordered the pin from your website, and when it arrive I attempted to thread it into the receiver. Put it only rotated by hand less than a quarter turn, and I could not tread it further by hand. When I attempted to tread it with a wrench, it was still difficult and required excessive force. I only treaded only 1 turn and then unthreaded it back out. It looks like the treads got stripped and the flat black paint on the pin was removed. At this point I suspect the internal nut must be bad and/or defective. My question is what options do I have? Should or can I use a regular pin? Can the internal nut be removed? I attempted to find instructions and a manual on the Yakima site, but the links are bad. Any assistance you can provide will be helpful. Thank You.

The Replacement Hitch Hardware for Yakima HoldUp or BigHorn Bike Racks Manufactured in 2008 or Later # 8890260 is the internal anti-rattle you find in the more recent model years. This is the same pin as the # Y8890200 which was not threading correctly into your old rack.

According to my contact at Yakima, to remove the old parts you will simply need to depress two tabs from either the outside of the shank or the inside to release the assembly. Then you can insert this new assembly and it will work well to secure your rack.
