Torque Figure for Installing Adjustable Channel Mount Trailer Coupler CTA-400

Question:

After the bolts are properly torqued on the CTA-400 Channel mount coupler how much slack on the side should there be between the channel and the ball coupler? Is there a maximum and minimum clearance requirement?

Expert Reply:

The bolts for channel mount coupler # CTA-400 have the markings for grade 8 bolts. They are 5/8 inch coarse threaded bolts so the minimum torque value is 159 and the max is 212 (foot pounds). Once torqued down the force will cause the metal of the channel to flex inward some.

That said there isn't a minimum clearance figure needed for between the mount and the channel. As long as you have the proper torque rating you'd be good.
