Comparing Reese Strait Line vs Steady Flex Hitch for Ease of Removal for Storage

Question:

As my Arctic Fox ordered trailer will be stored in an RV storage lot ease of hitch removal and re-installing is important before and after use. Which hitch is least complex and lighter given performance levels are about even. My tow vehicle will be a Ram 2500 Diesel ordered. Reese Strait Line vs Steady Flex Hitch.

The Reese Steady Flex # RP66560 will be 75 lbs total and the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control # RP66084 will be 113 lbs. The complexity of the systems to disconnect for storage will be similar, so I would just mark the trailer for easy reinstallation. The Strait-Line is a better system for sway control, so that is my recommendation for you. It appears more complex with the cams, but to remove it is really the same number of bolts.

You will want to make sure that your total tongue weight (including loaded trailer tongue weight and any cargo behind the rear axle of your Ram 2500) is in the middle range of your weight distribution system.

You will want to get a hitch ball like the 2-5/16 inch diameter # 19286. To make carrying your system easy, I recommend the HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly with 2-5/16" Ball # 303-HG-712 to give you leverage to lift your system.
