Selecting Replacement Tie-Down Straps for Waverunner Trailer

Question:

I bought the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps - 43inch Long - 833 lbs - Qty 2 and they are still in the box and have never been used. In looking at my current rusted Erickson straps on my trailer, I noticed that they are 1 inch wide. The ones I purchased above are 2 inches wide. Would you recommend I go with the mini G2 BeltBuckels instead? The G2 do seem a little large as I currently have 2 Erickson tie downs for the waverunner. Or - do you see no issue with using the G2?

Expert Reply:

Wider tie-down straps are fine for your PWC application, even if they are replacing 1-inch-wide straps. The key is that you do not exceed the straps' WLL, their Working Load Limit. WLL is the most load you want to put on the straps; it is 1/3 of their break strength. Staying within the 833-lb WLL of the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893 will ensure a long working lifespan.
